Why Fireborne? The Story Behind the Name

When I chose the name Fireborne Studio, it wasn’t just a name—it was a declaration. It reflects a journey shaped by loss, resilience, and the unyielding spark of creativity. Today, I want to share the meaning behind Fireborne and the three artworks that are shaping its essence: the hot rod, the minotaur, and the stag beetle.

The Fire That Sparks a Rebirth

The Eaton Fire was a turning point in my life. It didn’t just take my home; it took my history as an artist. Years of sketchbooks, references, and finished works—gone. I find myself staring at a blank slate, wondering how I can rebuild. But even in the ashes, there is a spark. That spark is Fireborne Studio.

The name represents rebirth and the creative fire that refuses to be extinguished. It’s about resilience, transformation, and finding beauty in the most unexpected places. Starting over isn’t easy, but it pushes me to create anew—and in doing so, I am rediscovering my passion and my purpose.

The Three Drawings That Define Fireborne Studio

Amid the loss of my portfolio, three pieces survived the flames. These artworks now hold even greater significance, each reflecting a piece of my story and the heart of Fireborne Studio:

The Hot Rod

This piece is deeply personal. It’s inspired by a pencil sketch my dad drew of a hot rod on a beach. I lost his original in the fire, but this drawing remains as a tribute to him and his vision. My dad always saw beauty in restoration—taking something old or broken and transforming it into something extraordinary. This surviving piece has become my homage to that spirit.

The Minotaur

The minotaur is a symbol of resilience and reinvention. In my reimagined take, he stands as a nomadic wanderer, having escaped the labyrinth to find his own path. This piece, now one of the few remaining from my portfolio, feels like reclaiming my own story—breaking free from what was lost and forging ahead with strength and purpose.

The Stag Beetle

The stag beetle, with its powerful mandibles and intricate form, represents transformation. This surviving piece celebrates nature’s resilience and the beauty found in even the smallest details. It’s a reminder that strength and creativity can emerge from anywhere, even when life feels fragile.

Rebuilding a Portfolio

Losing my art references and sketchbooks feels like losing a piece of myself. They were a record of my growth, ideas, and experiments. Starting over isn’t just about drawing again—it’s about rediscovering who I am as an artist. Every new piece is a step forward, and Fireborne Studio is becoming a place where I can celebrate that growth.

The Heart of Fireborne Studio

Fireborne Studio is more than a name; it’s a testament to the power of resilience and creativity. It’s about honoring the past while embracing the possibilities of the future. Through every stroke and every sketch, I aim to create art that inspires others to find their own sparks—to rise, rebuild, and create.

Thank you for being part of this journey. I’m excited to share more stories, art, and inspiration with you as Fireborne Studio begins to grow.
